A self-paced course for parents

The Blending
Breakthrough Course

Help your child go from knowing their letter sounds to reading real words — in just three weeks.

You’ve been doing the right things. You’ve done the flashcards, the phonics apps, the reading books. But when your child tries to put sounds together into a word, something isn’t clicking. This course shows you the piece that’s almost certainly missing — and exactly how to fix it.

Most children who can’t blend aren’t behind.
They’re just missing one thing.

🎯

The sounds are there. The blending isn’t.

Your child knows their phonics — they can say the sounds when you point to letters. But when they try to read a word, the sounds won’t join up. This is a specific, solvable gap. It’s not about ability.

🔐

Schools teach sounds. Parents teach blending.

Schools rarely have time to practise blending individually with every child. The ones who click often do so because they get extra practice at home — usually without anyone realising that’s what’s making the difference.

🗣️

Oral practice comes first — always.

The most important blending practice happens out loud, without any letters at all. Most parents skip straight to words on the page. This course teaches you the oral-first approach — and why it changes everything.

If you’ve been feeling like…

You’ve tried helping with reading but you’re not sure if you’re doing it right — or whether you might be making things harder

Your child knows all their sounds but freezes when they try to read a word, and you don’t know why

You’ve searched for phonics advice online and come away more confused than when you started

Your child is getting frustrated with reading — and you are too — and you can feel the resistance building

You want to help, but you’re worried about doing it wrong and making school harder for them

Other children seem to be reading already, and you don’t know what you’re missing

You’re not doing it wrong. You just haven’t been shown the right thing to practise — yet.

Imagine if…

You sat down with your child tonight knowing exactly what to do — and it took five minutes and felt like a game

Your child started blending sounds into words — without you having to prompt them, and without the frustration

You understood exactly what stage your child is at — and what to do next, not just what to hope for

Reading practice became something your child actually wanted to do — because it felt easy instead of hard

You felt confident talking to their teacher — because you finally understood what the school was working on, and why

That’s what three weeks of the right practice looks like. And it starts with one small, specific shift.

Hi — I’m Joanna.

I’ve been a Reception and Year 1 teacher for around twelve years. I’ve led phonics in school, worked as an Assistant SENCo supporting children with learning differences, and I’m a parent myself.

The oral-first blending method in this course isn’t something I read in a book — it’s what I noticed, again and again, in the classroom. The children who were stuck on blending almost always needed the same thing: practice out loud, without letters, before anything went on the page.

Once I started showing parents how to do this at home, things moved quickly. This course exists because that conversation — the one I used to have in doorways at pick-up time — deserves more than five minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. The course is designed for Reception and Year 1 children — broadly ages 4 to 6. If your child knows their letter sounds but isn’t yet blending confidently, this course is for them regardless of which year group they’re in. The oral-first approach works at any stage in this window.
The three video modules can be watched in an evening — they’re concise and to the point. The daily sessions with your child are short by design: five to ten minutes is enough, and fits easily into a normal family evening. The three-week plan is mapped out so you’re never wondering what to do next.
This course is made for parents, not teachers. I’ve deliberately avoided jargon — and explained it clearly when it does appear. Every activity is demonstrated on screen so you can see exactly what it looks like before you try it. If you can read this page, you can follow the course.
You can take the free Blending Check — a short oral assessment you can do with your child at home — to get a clear picture of where they are. If blending is the gap, this course addresses it directly. If something else seems to be going on, Module 1 will help you understand what that might be. Try the free Blending Check →
